Ganderbal, May 22 (KNO): National Conference (NC) Member of Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmad Larvi will forego participation in an upcoming all-party delegation’s international visit to fulfil his responsibilities as the spiritual head of the revered Ziyarat Baba Ji Sahib Larvi Wangath shrine at Wangat, Ganderbal.
The decision underscores his commitment to the annual Urs of Hazrat Mian Nizam-ud-Din Kiyani (RA), a cornerstone event for devotees across Jammu and Kashmir and beyond.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Mian Altaf, who serves as the Sajjadah Nasheen (custodian) of the shrine, emphasized that his presence during the two-day Urs, commencing in early June, is indispensable.
“The Urs is a sacred occasion of reflection, devotion, and community unity. My responsibilities here are paramount, given the influx of thousands of devotees and the event’s spiritual significance,” the MP stated.
NC leadership expressed full support for Mian Altaf’s choice, acknowledging the cultural and religious importance of the urs.
Party sources confirmed the delegation’s agenda would proceed unaffected, with other members representing the NC’s interests abroad.
Mian Altaf is currently engaged in religious responsibilities at home and overseeing arrangements for the Urs, which is attended by tens of thousands of devotees from across Jammu and Kashmir.
His dual role as parliamentarian and spiritual leader highlights his deep ties to both political and community spheres. His absence from the delegation underscores the enduring influence of religious traditions in Jammu and Kashmir’s socio-political fabric.
